Getting a replacement car following a non fault accident
If you have been involved in a car accident that wasn’t you fault, CoverGirl legal expenses insurance may be able to arrange a replacement car, whilst yours is off the road.
All you will need to do is provide us with the date, time and place of the car accident and a description of how the accident happened. We will also need the name, address, registration number and car insurance company of the person who you believe was responsible for causing the car accident.
We will then liaise with the insurance company of the person who was responsible for the car accident and once they have admitted liability, we will arrange for you to have a replacement car until yours is repaired. The replacement car will be an equivalent to your own, so if you need a people carrier for a large family, or an estate car for your work, that’s what you’ll get. The car will be fully insured, and will be paid for by your car insurance company of the person who caused the accident.
Even if you don’t have the full details of the person who caused the accident, we may still be able to help. We may be able to trace the other person, through the police (if they attended the scene of the accident) or the DVLA database. Should the person be untraceable or uninsured, we may be able to pursue a claim for personal injury and damage to your vehicle through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), an organisation funded by the insurance industry to assist people who have been involved in a car accident with untraced or uninsured drivers.
Getting a replacement car following a fault accident
If you are involved in a car accident which was your fault, you may be entitled to a free replacement car whilst yours is off the road.
If you have a comprehensive car insurance policy with CoverGirl you should check the terms and conditions of your policy document to see if you are entitled to a free replacement vehicle whilst yours is off the road. Even if you are not automatically entitled to a replacement vehicle a car may still be available from the body shop whilst your car is being repaired.
*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
